1928-1941
The Camp-printed programs for the first 14 seasons were multi-page booklets reaching a maximum of 64 pages and diminishing to as few as eight, and at the beginning, a great deal of commercial advertising. The centerpiece was the Sunday band and orchestra concerts, but they also included recitals and other events that occurred earlier in the week, as well as announcements of future programs. With the exception of 1942, there are some bound sets of each year’s sequence of eight programs; we have some original programs for nearly all 120 of these.
There were also “yearbooks” printed for each of the first few years as keepsakes that offer basic outlines of the performances plus a great deal of light-hearted material that point to what Scherzo will become. The first was entitled “The Overture 1928 Year Book”; we have the first four (1928-31) and those for 1934 (Opus 7) and 1935 (Opus 8) ; there may be others.
