Biography

Scott Van Ornum is principal keyboardist for the University of Michigan's Choral Department, associate director of music at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Birmingham, Michigan, and a frequent keyboardist for regional symphony orchestras, wind ensembles and choral societies. VanOrnum spent eight summers attending Interlochen Arts Camp, then four years at Interlochen Arts Academy, studying with Robert Murphy, graduating with high honors. He was awarded a Presidential Scholar in the Arts medal at the White House and performed at the Kennedy Center. VanOrnum, who was on the faculty of University of Michigan's All-State Program at Interlochen from 1992-2005, studied at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He has performed in churches and cathedrals around the country and in Europe, including Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, the Church of Saint Ignatius in Rome, the Hofkirche in Dresden, Saint Etienne Cathedral in France, Saint Thomas Church and Riverside Church in New York and the Crystal Cathedral in California.

Scope and Contents note From the Fonds: Photography has always been important to the National Music Camp, and photos exist from the earliest years of the Camp. Beginning in circa 1944, a concerted effort was made each year to fully document camp life. A professional photographer was on site throughout the season, taking high quality, usually staged, photographs. These consisted of group shots of each of the camper cabins, and numerous individual shots of campers and instructors. These photos were developed on-site in the campus...
